Recent films to enjoy

Amo to sit inside a dark film, Munch a handful of popcorn and I lose myself in an imaginary world filled with colorful characters and inventive dialogue. While many films end up being a disappointment, pleasant surprises more than make up for it. Because you can not have more time to devote to the movies as I do, I put together a list of recent films worth seeing. Some of these should be available at your local multiplex, while others require a trip to a theater that shows independent and art films. But in both cases, these selections should restore your faith in the art of cinema.

Winter's Bone (2010)-sure to be a favorite during the season of winter's bone, Oscar stars Jennifer Lawrence as a resident Ree Dolly carried Ozark. Forced to care for his younger brothers and mother incapacitated, Ree doesn't even have time to attend school. While she hunts for food, hides it and dreams of running away to join the armed forces, she receives some bad news: his father meth-treat got arrested, put on the farm of family on how to deposit and then skipped town. If he doesn't show up at Court, and his relatives are Ree without a home. In the absence of a car or a mobile phone, takes to the Woods on a dangerous mission to find her father and bring him back in time for the process.

Let Me In (2010)-A 12-year-old bullied (Kodi Smit-McPhee) befriends the new girl across the Hall (Chloe Moretz), but it turns out that she is an ancient vampire who may not even be a girl at all. The two outsiders form a link, one that threatens to doom the boy's soul forever young. A brilliant remake of Swedish film Let the Right One In.

Never Let Me Go (2010)-based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, this film blends drama and romance with a science fiction element. Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield play three friends who deal with life and love while growing up in an isolated community. I don't want to spoil the surprises of the movie, so let's just say that the world has found a new inventive method for organ transplants.

City (2010)-Ben Affleck serves as both star and Director in this film about a robber who begins an affair with a woman who once held prisoner (Rebecca Hall). He plans to leave the criminal life behind, but he gets pulled back in a robbery last from his old friend (Jeremy Renner) and a local crime boss (Pete Postlethwaite). Jon Hamm (Mad Men) co-stars as a tenacious FBI agent.

History of Tillman (2010)-This powerful documentary takes a look at life and controversial death of Pat Tillman, former NFL football player who gave up millions of dollars to serve his country in the aftermath of 11 September. Attention is paid to death under fire, the concealment of the next Government and search for the truth of his family.

Get low (2010)-Robert Duvall is at its best cantankerous as Felix Bush, a hermit who emerges from seclusion for the purchase of a funeral of "live" for himself. Bill Murray is the owner of the funeral home and Lucas Black is his young Assistant. The entire city is invited to come and share the stories you have heard of Felix over the years, but the elder also has a history of their own to tell. Sissy Spacek co-stars.

Speed Racer-family movie review

Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) breathes, eats and lives of motor racing. With his trusty Mach 5, speed is at the top of his game, winning the race after race, and start getting noticed by sponsor. When he turns down the offer from big-time conglomerate Royalton Industries, professional racing speed learns that are controlled by the sponsors-also the results of the Grand Prix are fixed. Not only that, but takes his revenge Royalton on family business Racer, hoping to destroy them. In order to change how the game is played and save his family inheritance, speed must risk his life most fierce competitors in the race in the world-the same one that claimed the life of his older brother many years before.

I must admit, I wasn't too thrilled to see this movie. After that the Wachowski brothers for the Matrix sequels, I was sure if he could win back my admiration. But only ten minutes, I was turning my husband saying: "you know, I really like this so far." He agreed with me. And as the movie progressed, we found ourselves laughing, snatch, also repeated several times that the film was better than we expected.

The first thing to grab our attention was of course the bright color palette. The Wachowski brothers filmed almost all actors against a back-drop green screen, which then filled with an incredible world of color, excellent, stunning animation and cartoon film. Using techniques that are guaranteed to be anything you've ever seen on screen before. Now the bar has been raised for special effects.

Speed Racer is a thrill ride for anyone who loves comics, video games, racing or NASCAR, kung fu, gangster film or anime. It's almost like Mario Kart on the big screen. The scenes with Spritle (Paulie Litt) and Chim Chim (his trusty chimpanzees) really put in mind of a child and are really funny. The races are so spectacular that had a nice kids (and adults) in the audience shouts out, "Cool"!

If you've heard that reviews of the film bright colors and psychedelic effects make you nauseous or give you a headache, I am here to tell you that I received none. (Actually I have a raging headache from The Bourne Ultimatum last year with his constant jerky motion pictures-if your stomach that, then Speed Racer should be a problem.) The Wachowski brothers disbanded the racing scenes quite so you don't have a constant blur and there's enough plot going on outside the actual events that help maintain a nice rhythm.

The most touching part of the film is the heart to heart talks that Pops Racer (John Goodman) and Mom Racer (Susan Sarandon) share with their son, speed. The family unit is very strong and important in this film, and POPs and their mother be sure to encourage speed and tell him I love him.

Speed and his girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), have an admirable ratio, both making good role models for our children. There is no Kiss until the end, speed is a perfect gentleman around her and their relationship involves doing more than just off as other couples teen movie. Trixie supports and encourages the speed does not matter what without being manipulating. They spend a lot of time with his family, and in essence, she was a part of the family since grade school. There is an underlying theme that Pops Racer married his best friend, and it seems that the speed is following in the footsteps of the same-a great lesson for young men in the audience.

Another theme of the film is standing for what is right, even if you think you don't have a chance. Speed Racer, going against the great magnates of industry ran is sort of the story of David and Goliath. The lesson is: money and greed comes anywhere, but he does love and family.

Finally, some critics have said that the movie is not faithful to life-personally, I'm glad it isn't! I think that if they were not provided for by that apparent comic book or video game world, children would be more inclined to imitate the bizarre things that they see on the screen.

CONS

Here are some things that parents should be aware before they venture theatres:

There are some comics/gangster-as violent as Piranha bite out of some frightening chases someone's finger and lots of action shoot-em-up.

As the rating of PG, I'm a little disappointed by the content of crude was allowed to slip by. There are a handful of words curse, even young Spritle someone gives the middle finger and an opponent to run all called "assholes". Chim Chim throws his own excrement at one point, and gets kicked an opponent in the groin (both received thunderous laughter from children in the audience).

There is also a fair bit of sensuality in the film. I was hoping a PG film should include racing stigma "hot babes and cars", but unfortunately, the Wachowski brothers thought that they had to throw it. There are several angles sensual, some women wear shorts indecent and very low cut tops and at one point, a woman wearing what appears to be a swimsuit steps ahead, resulting in a half-naked ass cheek by filling an important part of the screen. The film would have been better without these unnecessary distractions.

Part of the plot involves the stock market, which could be over the heads of children, but you should understand the general idea played. And the film jumps back and forth between the past, present and future-this also might be difficult for some younger viewers to follow.

OVERALL

In my personal opinion, this movie should really be rated PG-13. Had a material much more unpleasant than Nim's Island, which recently was rated the same. Having said that, here is a word of advice: go to the theatre with an open mind. Just might be surprised at how love this flick.

The last film shot in South Africa

South Africa has become a favourite destination for film crews shooting on location production in recent years. But while the Cape Town and its surroundings were used for the top advertising and production stills shoots for many years, is relatively recently that large movie productions have begun to use the South Africa regularly as a privileged frame for movie starring Jasmin Tabatabai great attractions like Halle Berry and Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio.

A great success, although with unknowns, District 9, released in 2009, he made headlines as one of the first South African film productions to make it big internationally. While the setting of urban decay and the theme of alien segregated by a Government unsympathetic, it is unlikely to bring tourists flocking, production was the big news for the South African film industry.

Violence in the cinema

Many people complain about violence in films and on television. Honestly, I don't see much violence being called because I am extremely selective in what I view. I had a discussion with a friend the other day about this topic. Reminded me that I had written an article some time ago and it has tracked down.

Is a true story, which happened in December 1994. With hindsight, this feels more like an experiment planned a happening spontaneously.

I attended three films within a period of seven days. Where I lived in Santa Monica at the time, I had the luxury of being within walking distance of the five films that shows a total of 22 films simultaneously. Most are hot out of the study. (I live in Santa Monica, but a little further away from these theatres).

The first film was "Legends of the Fall," which everyone can admit is violent. As I got to that one is a mystery, because I stayed is more of a mystery. Maybe it was so I could have this experience and tell it.

The second film was "the jungle book," which actually parents take children to see! I found it horribly distorted and violent.

The third was "IQ," a film that I found delightful. Wa that! Walter Matthau is one of my favorite actors of all time. No violence. Probably not many people would say "depth," to which I shrug my shoulders without comment. I went to the movies to be entertained and it was. I have a great depth in my daily work.

So now you know the movie experience. As blood and gore flashed across the screen in "Legends of the Fall", I looked at times and closed my eyes. About three-quarters of the way in the end, advertising that usually appear early began to play. The audience exploded!

Screaming and stomping feet were the norm. In particular a man seemed crazy. He screamed obscenities and could not say more than three words before repeating his favorite word, "f___ ing".

I have never been in a riot, but it felt to me as if one had to happen. I've posted a lot of love and light for the projectionist and the public. Soon the right reel was playing. Oops, no sound. More boos from the audience. Then the sound of the film came in. More whistles to rewind and start again the new coil. Finally, the finished film, although I have no memory.

Some days later, I was out for the second film in a theater .... "Jungle Book", a classic, regarded as a film for children. The audience that day included little boys and girls, accompanied by adults. The children were quite frightened. This was a tense, though, fear not a hilarious one.

Three-quarters of the way through, the film broke. The audience exploded with shouts and screams. The theatre was no longer as crowded as the previous film, or answers no doubt would be multiplied. Soon the film returned to the screen for the final.

Some days later, I attended "IQ" in a third theatre. This is a romantic comedy that require ingenuity of Albert Einstein with broad smiles and hees tee for the public.

Are you ready for this? Three-quarters of the way through, the film broke. Not a sound came from the audience. All sitting quietly, waiting for repair or whatever else was needed. Soon as this happened, and the film played to the end without stopping.

Want something in me that at the end of this article with a statement that sums up the whole experience deep and concise. But something stronger in me just wants to stand on its own--you make of it what you want. Is a true story.
